Hawkers are the most badly hit during this circuit breaker period. Hawkers United is a Facebook group for hawkers, intended to help hawkers who do not have delivery or marketing capabilities to have an outreach channel to the public.
Within a span of a few days, the group has grown to >140k members, and has an active community connecting hawkers, small F&B businesses and fresh food retailers to customers and delivery partners looking for ad-hoc assignments. Ideal for exploring wallet-friendly takeaway and delivery options from hawkers around you.
No doubt, our Singaporean local businesses are badly hit during this COVID-19 period. As the government implements circuit breaker measures, many of these businesses are struggling to stay afloat, amidst a sharp decline in sales coupled with the constant operating costs (e.g. employee wages, rent, loan repayments) which need to be paid regardless of whether the shop is open for business.
ChopeAndSave is a local initiative to save local Singaporean stores. Local businesses can create gift cards, for us consumers to buy and utilise after measures lax and they are allowed to reopen. It may not seem like much, but collectively, a ‘mini loan’ from every one of us, may be just enough to help these businesses tide through this challenging time.
You can check out this initiative here, and maybe buy a gift card while you’re at it! 🙂
